Green Energy - Facts
The most efficient and the most economical way of trapping solar energy is by using vegetation. If the existing ecological systems are allowed to flourish then with least effort sunlight and carbon dioxide are trapped as carbohydrates. The growth of foliage helps to bind carbon dioxide, soil and moisture.
The majority population diet is non-vegetarian. As such man is on the top of the food chain. Production and consumption of livestock requires extensive grasslands. This in turn requires extensive deforestation. Forests are a rich resource for the present and the future. World forests is a important link in the carbon cycle which maintains the climactic balance of this planet. If the entire population were to convert to a strictly vegetarian diet then there will be a significant contribution towards preserving the planet. The average health of man would improve and the health of the eco-system will also improve dramatically.
The production and cultivation of legumes should be encouraged. This will help in nitrogen fixation and a diet rich in legumes is good for health. If the waterways are preserved and the climatic changes happening can be stopped, then the electricity currently produced by hydro-electric power stations ( renewable source of energy) will be sustained. We need to stop global warming so that the polar ice caps are not melted away and the snow covered alps which feed all the major rivers are sustained.
